University, Utrecht, The Netherlands; 1976-1982: Research Associate at the Institute of
Systematic Botany in Utrecht; 1983: PhD degree at Utrecht State University, Utrecht, The
Netherlands; 1983-now: Curator of Lichens at the Botanischer Garten & Botanisches
Museum Berlin-Dahlem; from 1995-1998 also Deputy Curator of Bryophytes and
since September 1996 collaborator of the Department of Biodiversity Informatics and
Laboratories.

the latter with T. Ahti, Helsinki (draft key available); also
available on server of Smithsonian Institution in Washington: key to genera and
checklist. Meeting in Berlin, August 2006
- Lichens of New Guinea, in collaboration with A. Aptroot (Baarn, The Netherlands), E.
Sérusiaux (Liège, Belgium) and others); currently in preparation are treatments of
Graphidales.
- Guide to, and placement of lichen
determination keys, lichen illustrations and
ZSCHACKIA in the Internet.
- Maintaining of pre-1949 lichen literature database in the Internet: Mattick's Literature Index.
- Key to the lichen genera of the Neotropics;

- Revision of the genus Hypotrachyna in the Neotropics, in co-operation with J.
Elix (Canberra, Australia) and T. Nash (Tempe, USA), supported by DFG; preliminary

- The lichen flora of selected Aegean islands (Greece) and their phytogeographical and
historical significance, in collaboration with Dr. Raus;
current: inventory of Karpathos supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft;
