Curriculum:

Studies in Biology at the Free University of Berlin, diploma in 1995. Work on a freelance basis in the field of environmental planning, consulting and vegetation mapping 1994-1997. Contracted by the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) for implementation and management of the international database project "Registration of Plant Names" 1997-1999. Study of Chinese language at the Free University of Berlin 1999-2001. Principal investigator of a Sino-German plant collecting expedition to the Hengduan Mountains August-October 2000 (granted by the National Geographic Society, Washington D.C. and by the DAAD, German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn). Russian-German botanical-pharmaceutical expedition to Altai Mountains, S Siberia, July-August 2002. PhD student at the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem 2000-present.

  • Molecular and morphological systematics of the genus Saussurea and related genera Himalaiella, Frolovia and Lipschitziella
  • Co-author of the Flora of China for the genus Saussurea (Compositae)
  • Floristics and vegetation of Hengduan Mountains, SW China
  • Floristics and pharmaceutical plants of Altai Mountains, S Siberia
  • Taxonomy and biogeography of Compositae in high mountains of Central and Eastern Asia

PhD thesis:

Systematic revision of Saussurea subgenus Amphilaena (Stschegl.) Lipsch. (Compositae, Cardueae). Includes traditional morphological, cytological, scanning electron microsocopy and molecular techniques. Supported from April 2000 through March 2002 by a "NaFöG"-grant from the State of Berlin.
