De Herbario Berolinensi Notulae No. 27 ROSEMARIE GEBAUER The type specimens of African Loranthaceae described by others than Engler and kept in the general herbarium at Berlin-Dahlem (B) Abstract Gebauer, R.: The type specimens of African Loranthaceae described by others than Engler and kept in the general herbarium at Berlin-Dahlem (B). - Willdenowia 23: 291-304. 1993. - ISSN 0511-9618. About 100 type specimens of African Loranthaceae used for description of new taxa by authors other than Engler are represented in the general herbarium at Berlin-Dahlem. The types are listed alphabetically with their locality data, collecting dates, status (as far as known) and their accepted names. An index to the collectors is included. [Note: The equals sign for nomenclatural synonyms is coded as "=#"]. Introduction Besides c. 300 type specimens of Engler's Loranthus taxa (Gebauer 1993) the general herbarium at Berlin-Dahlem holds about 100 type specimens of African Loranthaceae described by other authors, especially by Sprague. The original material used by Engler is in Berlin and duplicates are in Kew whereas the greater part of the original material used by Sprague is in Kew and duplicates are in Berlin. Among the listed types are altogether about 20 individual collections which were used by different authors for the descriptions of different new taxa. The arrangement of information is the same as in Gebauer (1993). The data are cited from the labels, but complementary data from the protologues are added enclosed in square brackets when thought helpful. There are six specimens of L. pentagonia on the microfiche edition of the Candolle herbarium at G, four without any collection data, one specimen labeled "Perrottet 8. Janvier 1825 Nr. 163" and another "Perrottet & Leprieur 1829". None is marked as type specimen. 54. Loranthus pentheri Schlechter in J. Cap. 2: 578 (1862). – South Africa, Z.n.N. n.E. [C. Zeyher] (2 isosyntypes). #= Agelanthus prunifolius (E. Mey. ex Harv.) Polhill & Wiens (fide Polhill in sched.). It is uncertain, if these 2 collections are type specimens. On the label of one of them only the abbreviation "Z.n.N. n.E." is readable, which stands for "Zeyher's neuere Nachlieferung von Pflanzen, welche nicht mehr in E. Z. Enumeratio aufgenommen wurden, aber in den von Drège gemachten Vertheilungen der E.Z.schen Pflanzen vorkommen..." (fide Drège 1847: 599). On the label of the other specimen there are no data besides the species name. The handwriting is probably the same as illustrated and explained to belong to an amanuensis byGunn & Codd (1981: 145, 146). Possibly C. Zeyher alone is the collector of these specimens while in Harvey (1862) Drège, Eckl. & Zeyh. and H. Hutton are given as collectors. The difficulty to determine the collector(s) (Drège, Eckl. & Zeyh. or only Zeyh.) is discussed by Gunn & Codd (1981). 58. Loranthus quinquangulus Engl. & Schinz ex Schinz in Kaiserl. Akad. Wiss.
