Born 1964 in Passau (Bavaria). University studies in botany, zoology, and ecology. 1992-1994 PhD study (granted by NaFöG and DAAD). 1995-1997 Research Assistant, BRYOSTRAT Project (DFG; Prof. Dr Harald Kürschner, Institut für Biologie, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie, FU Berlin). 1997-1999 Free-lance consultant (faunistic, floristic, vegetation and landscape-ecological mapping in Berlin and Brandenburg) and Project Associate (Ikonothek) at the BGBM. 1.7.1999-30.6.2001 DFG-research grant. Performance of the "PONTAURUS Project". Since 2001 Lecturer, Technische Fachhochschule Berlin (TFH, University of Applied Sciences). 2001-2004 Research Assistant, DFG-research group "Functional aspects in a tropical rainforest in S Ecuador: Diversity, dynamic processes and potentials of use from a ecosystem viewpoint", subproject "Life strategies and adaptations of epiphytic bryophytes" (Prof. Dr. H. Kürschner). 2004-2006 Short Time Expert, EU-Twinning Project "Capacity Building in the Field of Environment for Turkey, Component 3 Nature". Since WS 2006/07 Lecturer, Institut für Biologie, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie, FU Berlin.

  • "PONTAURUS project" ("Sippendifferenzierung und Evolution in ausgewählten Vegetationseinheiten der Hochlagen arider und humider Gebirge in Vorderasien (Taurus und Pontisches Hochgebirge)", funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
  • Geobotany of SW Asia and the Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on the high mountain flora and vegetation.
  • Plant biodiversity in Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian ecosystems (vascular plants and bryophytes).
  • Theoretical and applied phytosociology.
  • Life strategies of bryophytes and angiosperms.
  • Diversity, ecosociology, and evolution of tropical epiphytic and Mediterranean bryophytes.
  • Mediterranean orchids.
  • Archeobotany.
