Born 1949 in Soest, Germany. University studies in Münster and Göttingen. 1975-1978: Scientific Assistant, Botanical Institute, University of Münster/Germany. PhD ibidem (1977). 1978-1980: Scientific Assistant, Institute of Plant Systematics & Morphology, University of Kassel/Germany. 1980-1983: Curator, 1983 to present: Senior Curator, Botanical Garden & Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem, Free University of Berlin, Germany.

Research interests and projects:

  • Taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of vascular plants in the Mediterranean, in particular Cisteae (Cistaceae), Verbasceae, Rhinantheae (Scrophulariaceae).
  • Plant biodiversity of Greece and the Aegean. Current: regional floras/annotated checklists of the Santorini island group and Eastern Thessaly; miscellaneous additions to the flora of Greece.
  • Med-Checklist: a critical inventory of vascular plants of the circum-mediterranean countries (edited by Prof. W. Greuter, Berlin, et al.). Evaluation and incorporation of supplementary literature for vol. 2 in prep.; co-editing the series Med-Checklist notulae (with Prof. W. Greuter, Berlin).
  • Flora Hellenica (based at botanical institutions in Patras/Greece [UPA], Copenhagen/Denmark [C], Lund/Sweden [LD] and Berlin-Dahlem [B]). Accounts in preparation of: Cistaceae (Cistus, Fumana, Halimium, Helianthemum, Tuberaria); Menyanthaceae (Menyanthes, Nymphoides); Boraginaceae p.pte. (Amsinckia, Asperugo, Borago, Cerinthe, Lappula, Rochelia); Labiatae p.pte. (Galeopsis, Glechoma, Leonurus, Phlomis, Prunella); Solanaceae p.pte.
