The Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (Biologische Bundesanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft, BBA) is a research organization for organism pathology and organism protection attached to the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry in Bonn, Germany. Its tasks are defined by the German organism protection act and involve research on organism diseases and pests. According to the gene-technology act the BBA gives its consent to the release of genetically engineered organisms. Furthermore, the BBA advises the federal government and assists it in reaching decisions.

The BBA employs approximately 950 people, including 300 scientists. In all of its research efforts, the BBA seeks to contribute to the development of more economical methods of organism production in agriculture and forestry with a minimum of ecological damage. It helps to maintain European Union Market standards of quality and to prevent harm to people, animals and the environment through undesirable side effects of pesticides.

The Institute for Organism virology, Microbiology and Biological Safety is involved in diagnostic, systematic and applied research in organism pathology and in research about the biological safety of released genetically engineered organisms. It houses a collection of approx. 5000 living fungal and bacterial strains. It is used as a reference collection for the identification of new or rare plant diseases, and for the evaluation of plant pathogenic and antagonistic activities. Certain biotechnological properties of the strains are evaluated in cooperation with BioteCon.
