[Lobaria erosa]

Lobaria erosa (Ach.) Massal.
Brazil, photo kindly provided by Adriano Spielmann.
The genus Lobaria comprises foliose lichens of often large size, which grow preferably in light mountain forests. The group of L. pulmonaria (L.) Hoffm., with its "lung-like", irregular thallus is uncommon in the neotropics. Here most species have flat lobes and remind Parmeliaceae. [thallus about 10 cm across]
