Zusammenfassung

Zur Umsetzung der Europäischen Wasserrahmenrichtlinie ist die korrekte Bestimmung der Arten des Phytoplanktons für die Ermittlung des ökologischen Zustandes mittels biologischer Bewertungsverfahren von grundlegender Bedeutung. Als Arbeitshilfe zur Qualitätssicherung der Bestimmung wurden für die Praxis der Phytoplanktonuntersuchung erstmals Taxon-Steckbriefe konzipiert. Sie sind eine Ergänzung zu den empfohlenen Bestimmungswerken, die in der opera-tiven Taxaliste ausgewiesen sind. In einem Begleittext werden die dargestellten zahlreichen Merkmale und die Datenherkunft erläutert. In der hier vorgelegten ersten Lieferung (Kasten & al. 2018) sind 50 der insgesamt über 350 Indikatortaxa in einem jeweils 3-seitigen Steckbrief dargestellt, der Informationen über ihre trophische Einstufung separat für gruppierte Gewässertypen, über Bestimmungsmerkmale mit Mikrofotographien und alle relevanten Informationen zur Bestimmung des Zellvolumens gemäß der deutschen Laborpraxis, über ihre Zugehörigkeit zu funktionellen Gruppen und saisonale sowie geografische Verbreitung in Deutschland enthält.

Summary

The implementation of the European Water Framework Directive relies on the correct identification of phytoplankton taxa to assess the ecological status of waters. Here, newly introduced taxa character sheets are designed assure the quality of routine taxonomic determination in phytoplankton analysis. They provide information supplementary to the existing determination books listed in the operational taxa list. The introduction describes the numerous illustrated characters and their data sources. This first release (Kasten & al. 2018) covers 50 out of about 350 indicator taxa. For each taxon, there is a datasheet consisting of diagnostic characters, information about its trophic classification for various water body types, microphotographs for visual identification, as well as a guide to determining the cell volume of specimens; the measurement guidelines follow the protocols routinely used in German laboratories. These datasheets will also link the taxa to functional groups and illustrate their seasonal and geographic distribution in Germany.
