Declaration on Accessibility

Body

Public Authority / Scope

Freie Universität Berlin, Central Institution Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum
We strive to make our website accessible. The accessibility statement is required under the Berlin Act on Accessible Information and Communication Technology (BIKTG Bln). The technical requirements for accessibility are set out in BITV 2.0.
This accessibility statement applies to:
The website of bo.berlin (“Website”).

Preparation of this Accessibility Statement

This statement was created or last revised on 10 February 2026.
The statements contained in this declaration were last reviewed on 14 November 2025.
The accessibility assessment was carried out on the basis of an external audit.

How Accessible Is the Website?

This website is partially accessible. Only some of the requirements of BITV 2.0 are currently met.

Which Areas Are Not Accessible?

The areas listed below are not accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with BITV 2.0
Some parts of the website are not accessible:

  • Non-text content: Images and graphics sometimes lack appropriate alternative text.
  • Structure and semantics: Headings, lists, and other structural elements are not always implemented in accordance with the relevant standards.
  • Focus and keyboard operability: Elements such as navigation, forms, and interactive components are not consistently operable via keyboard or do not provide visible focus indicators.
  • Contrast: Contrast ratios do not meet the required minimum values in all areas.
  • Link texts and navigation: Some link texts are not sufficiently descriptive or clearly recognizable as links.
  • Documents: Downloadable files (e.g. PDFs) have accessibility deficiencies.

(This is a selection of the key findings; detailed information can be found in the underlying audit report.)

Improvement Measures

We have begun implementing a structured action plan to improve the accessibility of the website. This includes:

  • Introducing mandatory alternative texts for media content
  • Revising the semantic structure of pages and templates
  • Adjusting contrast values and focus styles within the design system
  • Ensuring full keyboard operability
  • Optimizing form and status message logic
  • Revising and creating important documents (PDFs) in an accessible format

We plan to implement the defined measures no later than as part of the new website scheduled for 2027.
